Quick Threading Needles

Quick Threading Needles
Quick Threading Needles - for domestic machines
When is it a good idea to use a quick threading needle?
If you’re struggling with threading your needle or if the eye of the needle seems smaller than you remember, the Quick Threading Needle could be the perfect solution for you. This needle functions similarly to the Universal Needle but features a unique threading slot in the eye, making it easier to thread your needle.
To use the Quick Threading Needle, simply draw the needle thread across the right side of the needle. As you slide the thread past the eye, it will find its way into the slot and thread itself, eliminating the need to locate the eye directly. Notably, there is no need to adjust the thread tension when using this needle. It is versatile, compatible with a wide range of fabrics.
When selecting the sewing thread, ensure that its thickness corresponds appropriately to the needle size. If the thread is too thin, it may slip out of the needle eye, while overly thick thread can result in breakage. Additionally, using this needle with very thick materials may lead to needle breakage.
It’s important to note that the Quick Threading Needle is not as robust as a regular Universal Needle due to the cut in the eye. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid using this needle for delicate fabrics, such as silk or micro fiber, as the threading slot could pull threads. Furthermore, it should not be used for quilting, as it may cause fibers in the batting to be pulled.
Which size needle do you need for your sewing project?
Keep in mind that the thicker the material you are working with, the larger the needle size you will require to ensure smooth stitching and avoid any potential fabric damage!
A bit about needle life…
On average we recommend the sewing life of a needle is 6-8 hours. The tip can snap clean if it has hit the machine hardware, different fabrics can cause the tip to wear/blunten, the shaft will weaken over time as it penetrates fabrics and the hole can even wear a groove over time as threads rub in the same spot. Please be aware that depending on fabric type, thickness and thread used, this life time will vary.
A bit about Schmetz…
Since 1851 SCHMETZ has been the leading manufacturer of quality sewing machine needles in the world. A SCHMETZ sewing machine needle passes through up to 35 stages of production and after each production stage there is a semi- or fully automated check. There are plenty of other cheaper brands who haven’t got this strict production process in place, and we see time and again first hand that the dodgy needle can cause havoc with your sewing experience (the hook not picking up the thread to form a stitch, thread shredding and thread breakages to name a few).
Please see below for more information on which needle to use for which fabric, and a useful ‘colour chart’ for knowing which needle you have in your machine currently ( without the use of a magnifying glass!).
